Course Duration - 5 Days
This practical programme is designed for learners who have successfully completed the Domestic & Commercial LPG Fitting Theory course and are ready to progress into hands-on installation training.
The course develops practical competence in planning, assembling, testing and commissioning LPG systems in line with recognised safety practices, technical requirements and applicable standards.
Learners work through realistic installation activities and develop the practical judgement required to carry out LPG fitting work safely, methodically and professionally.
This programme is suitable for:
learners who have completed the Domestic & Commercial LPG Fitting Theory course
aspiring LPG installers progressing toward practical competence
technical trainees who require supervised hands-on installation experience
apprentices and junior technicians working toward broader LPG installation capability
individuals who need practical experience in the installation, testing and commissioning of LPG systems
The practical programme develops hands-on skills in:
site preparation, safety procedures and appropriate PPE
safe use of tools and equipment
planning the sequence of an LPG installation
interpreting appliance data and system requirements
selecting and positioning manifolds and regulators
calculating and selecting suitable pipe sizes
assessing ventilation requirements
selecting, cutting, preparing and joining LPG pipework

interpreting pressure readings
purging LPG systems safely into and out of service
assessing appliance operation and combustion
completing final checks and preparing an installation for handover
explaining basic appliance operation and safety requirements to the customer
working with relevant installation documentation and manufacturer instructions
This is a hands-on, instructor-led practical training programme.
Learners are required to participate in practical installation activities and demonstrate correct procedures under supervision.
Training includes:
practical system assembly
pipe preparation and joining
regulator and manifold installation
installation of isolation valves and test points
ventilation assessment
pressure and soundness testing
purging procedures
appliance commissioning
fault identification
use of appropriate tools and test equipment
installation inspection and final system checks
The emphasis is on developing safe working habits, practical accuracy and a structured approach to LPG installation work.
Learners are assessed on their ability to apply the practical skills and procedures covered during the course.
Assessment may include direct observation of practical tasks, installation exercises, testing procedures, calculations, system inspection and the correct use of tools and equipment.
Learners are expected to demonstrate that they can carry out practical LPG installation activities safely, accurately and in accordance with the technical principles covered during their theory and practical training.
Important: Successful completion of this Gas Uni practical programme does not, by itself, constitute registration, licensing or legal authorisation to work as a registered LPG installer. Any formal registration or recognition requirements are subject to the relevant industry and regulatory authorities.
This practical programme can also be delivered for businesses, training institutions and technical groups that require structured hands-on LPG installation training.
Where appropriate, practical exercises can be adapted to reflect:
the experience level of the learners
the types of LPG systems commonly encountered
workplace or institutional requirements
local equipment and installation practices
specific technical skills that require development
Group delivery can form part of a wider installer-development or workforce training programme.
